MINA YANEY

Austrian chief architect and founder of the design label Markenhaut as well as the architecture office P.a.int | Practice for Architectural Interfaces. He develops the holistic and cross-media designline for Markenhaut’s projects and oversees the areas of architecture, interior design, product design and visual branding. His work specializes in the conception and development of architectures as multimodal skins that mediate between different milieus while interweaving them into synergistic environments. Additionally, his focus lies in multimodal design theory and research into emerging building typologies and technologies. He coined the term ‘form follows interfaciality’ suggesting a multimodal design principle where architectural form is engendered as skin – directly influenced and informed by the interaction between the involved different milieus it is interfacing.

He has taught at the Graz University of Technology, at the Institute for Building & Energy, and was a research and teaching fellow in the field of Architectural Robotics at the College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities in South Carolina, USA. Yaney is a member of the Chamber of Architects and Chartered Engineering Consultants for Vienna, Lower Austria, and Burgenland, as well as the International Society for the Philosophy of Architecture (ISPA).

His work has been published and exhibited in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States. In 2020, he founded the architecture studio P.a.int, which focuses on architectural interfaces and operates across the fields of architecture, interior design, architectural branding, urbanism, research & development. In 2022, he co-founded and relaunched the new version of the iconic Café NIL. He gave it a conceptual and design-driven reinterpretation, fusing historical and modern elements into a contemporary and intercultural brand identity. Café NIL was recognized by the media as one of Vienna’s best new openings in 2022.

BARBARA WAIS

is Drahtzieher. Since 2002, she has been pulling the creative strings with a clear ambition: good design emerges in the dynamic interplay of experimentation, expertise, discourse, reliability, passion—and, not least, enjoyment. In close collaboration with the Markenhaut team, Barbara Wais develops design solutions that are always conceived within a broader context. Projects are analyzed, needs are defined, goals are set together—and realized through open dialogue with creativity, precision, and consistency. This is how design is created that not only functions, but also connects, guides, and inspires.

Barbara Wais studied graphic design at the renowned Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, graduating in 2001. She also studied at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Through DRAHTZIEHER Design + Communication, she offers a broad spectrum of design disciplines, including: Graphic Design & Typography, Corporate Design, Book and Editorial Design, Information Design, Exhibition Design & Curatorial Content, Signage Systems, Websites & Digital Communication.

She works with cultural institutions, museums, ministries, cities, platforms, the creative industries, and companies—including UNESCO World Heritage Prehistoric Pile Dwellings, Architekturzentrum Wien (AzW), Museum Niederösterreich, Wien Museum – MUSA, Fotogalerie Wien, epodium Verlag, among many others. Her context-sensitive approach generates a visually rooted design for Markenhaut that is both systemically and thematically anchored—serving as a brand-specific, mediating, and cross-media visual language.
